Gartland classification for extension fractures:
- recognizes that anterior cortex fails first w/ resultant posterior displacement of distal fragment;
- Type I: non-displaced frx;
- Type II: displaced with intact posterior cortex;
- Type III: displaced with no cortical contact;
Wilkin Modification of Gartland Classification
- Type I: non-displaced frx;
- Type II: displaced with intact posterior cortex;
A: intact posterior cortex and angulation only
B: intact posterior cortex, angulation and rotation
- Type III: completely displaced with no cortical contact;
A: posteromedial
B: posterolateral
